Celebrity engagement rings: The bigger, the better

The holiday season means more than just being with family - it's also the prime time to get engaged. The time between Christmas and the New Year is when a number of people get down on one knee and pop the question, and this includes the stars in Hollywood. This past weekend, Kelly Clarkson and Kate Von D both got engaged, and their new sparklers prove the recent trend of the bigger, the better, in Hollywood is still going strong.

Details about Kelly Clarkson's new bauble
Clarkson's beau Brandon Blackstock popped the question this past weekend, and gave Clarkson a massive yellow diamond ring. The pop singer was quick to put a picture of the ring on Twitter, while also explaining it a bit.

"It's a yellow canary diamond with diamonds around it and Brandon designed it with Johnathon Arndt! They did an amazing job! I can't wait to make Brandon‘s ring with Johnathon as well!" Clarkson tweeted.

Clarkson has had two opportunities to show off her new sparker at events this week. On Sunday, she performed during "VH1's Divas" event, and then last night, she sang during "The Voice" finally, and she made sure to flash her new bling around just a little bit.

Kat Von D's unusual proposal and ring
Tattoo artist Kat Von D also got engaged this past weekend, and in quite the unique way. Electronic music star Deadmau5, whose real name is Joel Thomas Zimmerman, decided to pop the question to his girlfriend of four months via Twitter, and Von D quickly accepted.

As a part of the proposal, Deadmau5 posted a picture of the ring, which was set in gold with two skulls surrounding the diamond. He explained that the ring wasn't done yet, as they were going to replace it with a black diamond.

Jennifer Aniston vs. Angelina Jolie
When it comes to comparing engagement rings, Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie, who each got engaged within a few months of each other, were obviously compared. Jolie is set to marry Brad Pitt, who famously left Aniston for Jolie years ago. Aniston is planning a wedding with actor Justin Theroux, and the two engagement rings couldn't be more different - but they were both valued at $500,000.

According to E! Online, Aniston's is approximately 12 to 18 carats with a radiant cut center diamond, whereas Jolie's is a dazzling emerald cut with diamonds flanking it, equaling about 16 carats.

And the most expensive goes to...
Expensive celebrity engagement rings come as no surprise to many, but just how expensive some of these baubles are may surprise some. According to the Business Insider, Reese Witherspoon's rare 4-carat Ashoka diamond, given by husband Jim Toth in 2010 is estimated at $250,000. Hilary Duff's massive bauble from hockey player Mike Comrie is about 14 carats, and is valued at $1 million. Mariah Carey's beautiful pink diamond from Nick Cannon comes in at about 17 carats and is worth $2.5 million. However, this is still not the most expensive among the celebrities.

In fact, the priciest goes to Beyonce, who rocks an 18-carat flawless diamond designed by Lorraine Schwartz. She and husband Jay-Z tied the knot in April 2008, the media outlet reports.

Those who want to rock similar baubles, but do not have the thousands - or even millions - to do so can still get similar looks, but for much less with costumes jewelry such as 5.98 TCW Emerald-Cut Cubic Zirconia Sterling Silver Two-Piece Bridal Engagement Wedding Band Set.
