George Lucas announces engagement to longtime girlfriend

George Lucas recently announced that he and his longtime girlfriend, Mellody Hobson, will soon planning a wedding. According to People Magazine, Lucas and Hobson, who is the DreamWorks animation chairman and president of an investment management firm, have been together for the past seven years.

The "Star Wars" creator certainly has the bank account to get his bride-to-be quite the engagement ring. Lucas, 67, recently sold Lucasfilms to Disney for $4 billion, the majority of which he gave to charity.

"For 41 years, the majority of my time and money has been put into the company," Lucas said in a statement. "As I start a new chapter in my life, it is gratifying that I have the opportunity to devote more time and resources to philanthropy."
