The best dressed honors at the Oscars

The night belonged to "The Artist," as it one three big awards including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Academy Awards. However, these awards, which are given to the best in the film industry, are also about the beautiful gowns and stunning jewels that the A-list celebrities wear.

According to Forbes Magazine, the trend among jewelry was that stars went with old Hollywood glamour, as many were nothing short of elegant. The celebrities kept their earrings and necklaces modest, but their rings and bracelets made a statement. Diamonds and emeralds were popular among many, as were top designers Harry Winston, Fred Leighton, Lorraine Schwartz and Neil Lane.

All-in-all there were several best dressed at the event, but a couple truly stole the show. Emma Stone looked ravishing in a bold red Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown with a large tie-neck. According to People Magazine, the actress chose a Louis Vuitton sparkling silver clutch and a big, bold Louis Vuitton High Jewelry bracelet.

Michelle Williams and Natalie Portman also opted for radiant red dresses. The Best Actress nominee Williams donned a Louis Vuitton strapless number with a ruffled bodice and a light pink Bottega Veneta clutch and 30-carat Fred Leighton choker and matching brooch. Portman opted for a strapless as well, but her look was a bit more subtle. The actress's gown was red with small black polka dots and she matched it with some massive Harry Winston jewels, according to ABC News.

Kristen Wiig, who was nominated for the screenplay of "Bridesmaids," took on a neutral gown with her hair loose in waves past her shoulders. The tiered J. Mendel dress was simply perfect, and she paired it with Neil Lane jewels. Cameron Diaz, who presented with the equally beautiful Jennifer Lopez, also went for a subtle tone, as the actress donned an off-white gown with metallic accents. The strapless dress had ruching and a fishtail bottom, and it looked fantastic with the nearly $1 million worth of Tiffany jewels. Lopez also chose a metallic dress, as she wore an Art Deco-style low-cut Zuhair Murad gown that clung to her curves and showed off that flawless body. She paired it with drop diamond earrings and a sparkly clutch.

Jessica Chastain may have lost her Best Supporting Actress award to co-star Octavia Spencer, but she definitely won in many fashionista's eyes. The redhead looked exquisite in an Alexander McQueen gown with black and gold brocade down the front. Also, the $2 million Harry Winston yellow diamond earrings and bracelet truly added to the look.

Another star of the night was Meryl Streep, who looked elegant in a gold wrap-dress with dangling earrings. Streep won for Best Actress, earning herself her third Oscar and her 17th nomination, for her role as Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady."

"I look out here and I see my life before my eyes," Streep said during her acceptance speech. "My old friends, my new friends and really... this is such a great honor, but the thing that counts the most with me is the friendships and the love and the sheer joy that we have shared making movies together. Thank you all of you - departed and here - for this inexplicable wonderful career."

Those who want to dress like their favorite A-list celebrities, but don't want to break the bank can still get the stand-out jewels by purchasing fashion jewelry.
